Thankfully, the dog training industry is evolving. How we teach our dogs is just as important as what we teach them. I am a force free trainer and I use reward based methods that are backed by science. This means I do not use any methods or equipment that involve pain, force, or intimidation. I also take a very proactive approach to training by putting an emphasis on prevention and teaching alternative behaviors to form good habits. Having a well trained dog starts with your relationship. A good relationship is built on a solid foundation of communication, trust, compassion, and mutual respect. The other most important part to having a well trained dog is making the learning process FUN! This will create a dog that WANTS to listen to you and engage with you. Using any variation of pain, force or intimidation at best, teaches your dog to avoid unpleasant things that come from you rather than teaching them an actual skill.
